I&E Discovery Day in CCKPS 2005

11 March 2005 marked a significant day for Chua Chu Kang Primary School . It was a day without formal lessons but full of interesting learning activities. That day was known to all as I & E Discovery Day. The theme was “Discover & Unleash the Fun in You”. It was planned such that pupils could experience and discover new ideas in a fun and exciting way and to apply concepts taught within curriculum to different situations. Some pupils were also given leadership opportunities by taking charge of learning stations and booths. The numerous activities available on that day were Jungle Walk, Walk with Giants, Maths cum PE Discovery Fair, Maths Trail, Learning Support Fun Time and Nail Art. There were also fund raising booths in the canteen where the Mother Tongue Department teachers sold popcorn and kachang putih and the Information Technology Department (IT Club) took neoprints for pupils and teachers. Activities in the classroom allowed pupils to play online games as well as create shapes using tangrams. The pupils enjoyed themselves tremendously and the Primary 1 and 2 pupils were seen wearing the mascot headband home at the end of the day.

A Constructivist Approach to Language Acquisition Using Video Technology

This project is part of our IT initiatives in providing our pupils with IT skills and the opportunities to acquire English Language skills using an innovative approach. Through this project, the pupils will also :

•  have enhanced self-confidence and sense of fulfilment
•  learn team work through cooperative learning while sharing ideas, planning and producing programmes and evaluating outcomes
•  self reflect on their learning processes and journeys

This project incorporates the learning of one English Language theme i.e. 'Famous People'. It will be carried out during English Language lessons as well as outside curriculum hours. Phase 1 of this project involves Primary 3A and Primary 3I classes which will be carried out in Term 2.
